Lincoln, NE ~ The Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM) has
announced that Chase Carter, a native of New Mexico, has been named OCM's Executive
Director. Carter, whose family ranches near Clayton, NM, will assume his position
on March 15.
"I am excited to begin working with OCM on behalf of
independent producers of all commodities," noted Carter. "The issues we
face today are as critical as they have been in history. But the winds of change
are blowing. More and more producers are becoming actively engaged in the policy-making
process. Through OCM's efforts, America's independent producers are gaining a voice and
increasing the pressure for change. I intend to hit the ground running as we work
to restore competition and fairness to the agricultural
marketplace."
Carter's grandfather, Sam Britt, was one of the original plaintiffs
in the historic Pickett v. Tyson price manipulation lawsuit. An Alabama jury found
Tyson's captive supply practices caused cattle producers $1.28 billion in damages.
OCM awaits a decision by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals on whether the verdict
will be reinstated after the trial judge set it aside last year.
"Chase's knowledge of the issues, professionalism and his
rapport with grassroots producers are very valuable assets," said Keith Mudd, OCM
president. "OCM is very fortunate to bring him on board."
Carter previously served as R-CALF USA's field representative.
The Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM) is an agricultural free market and competition think tank working for honesty, prosperity and economic liberty for farmers, ranchers and rural communities.
