"OCM is proud to be part of the annual Wheel Horse Media Awards
program," noted Fred Stokes, OCM president. "The term ‘wheel horse’
depicts the horse in a team that works closest to the outside wheel. The wheel
horse is a proven veteran who pulls the hardest and guides the team through the
twists and turns. The slate of 2004 award recipients has most certainly earned
this honor. Day in and day out, they’re on the firing line providing us with
the most comprehensive coverage of the issues available anywhere. Theirs is not
an easy task, given the opposition they must face. What I personally appreciate
the most about these individuals is their ability to provide the catalyst that
stirs the grassroots to action, which has been so sorely needed for so long. It
is with pride that we honor their work," said Stokes.
In response to the announcement, Linda Grosskopf
said, "It’s humbling and gratifying to be honored by receiving the Editor
of the Year Wheel Horse Award and certainly is one of my lifetime achievements.
My life’s goal is to be described as ‘she made a difference’. To be described
in that manner is what I consider the ultimate tribute. I’m grateful beyond words which, as many know, is not typical for me."
The Organization for Competitive Markets is a nonprofit
organization working for fair, open and competitive markets for farmers,
ranchers and rural communities. OCM
helps lead the Cattlemen’s Competitive Market Project which is a voluntary
contribution program focusing on competition in the cattle markets.
