CCMP Welcomes Herman Schumacher
To Steering Committee

Lincoln, NE ~ The Organization For Competitive Market’s (OCM) Cattlemen’s Competitive Market Project (CCMP) announced today that Herman Schumacher,  of Herreid Livestock Auction Market, Herreid, SD has accepted a position to the CCMP Steering Committee.

"As CCMP grows, so must its infrastructure," says OCM Executive Director Steve Cady. "Through a grassroots approach, CCMP is gaining significant momentum throughout cattle country. We want to ensure the steering committee reflects a broad-based representation of cattlemen. Herman Schumacher is a man of integrity and credibility; he knows the issues that must be dealt with; and he understands clearly that cattlemen want a solution-oriented process to deal with competition issues which is CCMP’s mission," noted Cady.

Schumacher joins Tom Spencer, Circle T Cattle Co., Pueblo, CO; Randy Stevenson, Double S Feeders, Wheatland, WY; Jerry Adamson, Rocking J Ranch, Cody, NE; Korley Sears, Ainsworth Feedyards, Ainsworth, NE; Brett Gottsch, Gottsch Feeding Corporation, Elkhorn, NE; and Dwayne Mays, Ogallala Livestock Auction, Ogallala, NE on the CCMP Steering Committee.

"We’re determined to surround ourselves on the steering committee with knowledgeable, experienced people who derive the majority of their income from the cattle business," said Sears. "Herman Schumacher knows the business inside and out. He brings significant talent and resources to the table and we certainly look forward to the added dimension and vision he will bring to CCMP."

OCM introduced CCMP earlier this year as an institution focused on market competition issues. Its mission is to restore fair and equal access to cattle markets for all independent cattlemen through the enforcement of antitrust laws, research and data analysis, while drafting model policy and legislation with regard to competition, and increasing communication between producers and consumers.

Fred Stokes, OCM President, says he’s pleased with CCMP’s rapid growth. "OCM’s goal, with the development of CCMP, is to restore and preserve a competitive marketplace for the cattle industry. As funding for CCMP grows we’ll be providing support for the appropriate research, data analysis and communication the industry needs to battle these issues and win. It’s clear that OCM can’t do it all, therefore, we want to meet the needs surrounding competition issues by providing funding to like-minded organizations who recognize that competition is a core issue. We’re pleased to have a strong steering committee driving this effort that’s made up of individuals like Herman Schumacher," said Stokes.

CCMP is not a membership organization. Funding comes from livestock auction markets and independent feeders on a per-head basis at the point of sale. All contributions are tax deductible under OCM’s non-profit status. For more information, contact Steve Cady at 402.792.0041 or visit the web site at www.competitivemarkets.com.
